Buran Space Shuttle

The Buran Space Shuttle was only launched once on November 15 1988. This Soviet space craft was launched at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This shuttle was launched into the earths orbit without any people in it. This shuttle was carried up into orbit on a specialized booster rocket called the "energia", the Buran went around the earth in the orbit in 206 minutes of flight and landed just a short distance away from its target on the Baikonur Cosmodrome run way.

Buran space shuttle was supposed to go for a second run in 1993 and should have lasted up to 15-20 days. Instead the Buran got canceled and was never launched because astronomers were worried that the fate of the Buran would be the same as the Columbus.

May 15 2002, the Buran collapsed in its hangar. Due to this disaster 8 workers were killed and the Buran was destroyed along with its energia booster rocket.
